The AirWave Management Client™ (AMC) is an optional lightweight software utility that makes end-user client devices a seamless part of your Wi-Fi management system. AMC installs quickly and easily on client devices, and operates passively in the background without requiring any changes to existing user behavior. AMC communicates directly with the AirWave Management Platform™ wireless management software in your network operations center to:















  • Convert your existing end-user client devices in to RF sensors.

    • Devices with AMC automatically collect invaluable data about the RF airspace in your facilities. AMC uses the client’s existing 802.11 radio to passively scan the airspace and collect information on all other Wi-Fi radios within range, including RF interference, relative signal strength, channel assignments, security settings, and more. AMC delivers this information securely to the AirWave Management Platform, which correlates it with data with other sources to diagnose problems and optimize network performance.

  • Detect rogue access points via RF scanning.

    • AMC makes every client device an extension of the AirWave Management Platform’s RAPIDS rogue AP detection module, supplementing the information RAPIDS already receives from managed access points and wireline scans. When AMC reports the list of APs within range of the client device, RAPIDS immediately and automatically compares the results to the list of known, authorized APs on the network. Whenever an unknown, suspected “rogue” device is detected RAPIDS automatically alerts administrators via email or SNMP trap.

  • Help users avoid man-in-the-middle attacks and rogue access points.

    • AMC’s onscreen display lists all access points within range, clearly distinguishing between legitimate APs managed by the AirWave Management Platform and unknown, unauthorized access points. By choosing to connect only to known APs, users avoid possible security breaches and attacks.

  • Enable users to select the best access point for optimal performance.

    • AMC communicates directly with the AirWave Management Platform to obtain real-time information on every access point within range, including client load, bandwidth utilization, device status, and more. With this information, users can avoid overutilized access points and associate to APs with a strong RF signal and available bandwidth.
